What Council Does For You

Members of Council have always been a dedicated group of alumni that volunteer their time to work closely with the staff of Alumni Engagement & Services to provide opportunities for your lifelong learning, engagement and recognition through an outstanding array of events, programs, services and awards.

Alumni in the new Council and committee structure will continue this commendable work by organizing events such as Homecoming and Day of Service, assisting with Convocation, celebrating outstanding alumni through the annual Awards and facilitating programs for Durham GTA alumni.

Following is a very brief description of the committees in the newly proposed structure:

Awards & Recognition

The awards committee encourages nominations for the annual Alumni Awards, and then evaluates all received nominations and chooses the recipients. It will also consider the candidates for Honorary Alumni, Jade Circle (awarded to alumni who complete two terms on the Board of Governors for Trent University) and Emerald Circle (awarded to alumni who complete a term as Chancellor).  Nominations open in December each year, and the deadline is usually February or March. The awards are presented at selected alumni events throughout the following year. For more information please visit our Alumni Awards website.

The Convocation committee will work closely with the Manager of Convocation to help the graduating students celebrate their achievements with their family, friends, faculty and classmates at their first alumni event:  the reception following each Convocation ceremony. They will also assist the Manager of Convocation organize and facilitate the 50th anniversary reunion class each year. For more information please visit our Convocation website.

Day of Service

Day of Service is the first Saturday in May each year where Trent Alumni are encouraged to volunteer and give back to their community in the name of Trent – spreading the spirit of Trent wide and far.

Trent University’s Homecoming has been celebrated along with the annual Head of the Trent Rowing Regatta on the Saturday before Thanksgiving since 1972.  For more information please visit our Homecoming website
