Title: How Pathogens Use Traits from Environmental Bacteria to Survive in Human Hosts Bacteria possess unique abilities to breakdown organic compounds, including steroids. Some pathogens grow on steroids to help them survive in their human host. Studies of steroid catabolic enzymes provide fascinating insights into enzyme mechanisms and targets for novel therapeutics.
