Remembering THB Symons, Chapter Seven: A Lifelong Scholar, Teacher, Mentor, and Leader

Throughout the summer, Trent University Alumni Engagement and Services will be presenting Remembering THB Symons, a nine-part video honouring the life and times of founding Trent president Professor Thomas Henry Bull Symons (1929-2021). Compiling stories and memories from friends, family, and colleagues, the video explores the history of this noteworthy Canadian and the university that he helped shape.
Episodes will be released each Friday throughout the summer.
Chapter Seven: A Lifelong Scholar, Teacher, Mentor, and Leader explores Professor Symons’ unparalleled passion for scholarship, community, and country; his personal journey to humbly know more; and his lifelong role as a scholar, teacher, mentor, and leader.
This chapter contains anecdotes and memories from: Dr. Michael Eamon, principal of Catharine Parr Traill College; The Honorable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario; Trent President Dr. Leo Groarke, Trent Board of Governors Chair Armand La Barge; Kathryn Matheson, assistant to Professor Symons, class of 2000; Christine Bata-Schmidt, daughter of Tom and Sonja Bata, former member of the Trent Board of Governors Advancement Committee; Bob Taylor-Vaisey, former president of the Trent University Alumni Association, class of 1966; Mary Symons, daughter of Professor Symons; Dr. Ralph Heintzman, editor of Tom Symons: A Canadian Life, Honorary LLD from Trent University.
