TRENT ALUM CO-WRITES ‘BLUEPRINT’ FOR A MORE PURPOSEFUL LIFE
StudioPTBO managing partner, Neil Morton ’89, credits his Trent professors for his game-changing ability to think analytically
A new book co-authored by Trent alum Neil Morton ’89 provides readers with the motivation and mental toolkit needed to create and lead a more prosperous and happier life, both professionally and personally.
Co-written with his business partner, Cody May, What If You Could?: The Mindset and Business Blueprint for Your Life of Purpose, is a spin-off of the popular StudioPTBO podcast that the pair co-hosts. Each chapter provides a quick lesson or principle conveyed via a simple story or anecdote. According to Mr. Morton, their approach was purposefully light.
“I really wanted it to feel super breezy and whimsical…a really easy read,” says Mr. Morton.
“The intent is to inspire and trigger a spark that will set you on the right path if you’re struggling a bit. We’re going through a great reset now. People are really trying to figure out ‘OK, what really makes me happy’ in terms of relationships and work and lifestyle, where they live and who they surround themselves with, so this book couldn’t come at a better time.”
Since completing a joint major in History and English at Trent, Mr. Morton has stayed involved with the university – he currently sits on the alumni marketing committee.
“My time at Trent was a pivotal moment that set me on a path to go out there and go after stuff,” says Mr. Morton, who co-founded both StudioPTBO and the digital media company PTBOCanada (which he sold in March, 2021) following a lengthy tenure as editor at several national magazine publications.
“I had amazing professors who taught me to think analytically. That was a game changer. It gave me the perspective to see that there are always two
sides to a story, and that things aren’t as black and white as they appear to be; to always come at things from different viewpoints.”
