When Todd Anthony Tyler ’88 (Champlain College) arrived at Trent from a small town, he had no idea his future would take him far beyond the lab and deep into the world of fashion. Now as someone who has gone on to build a successful career behind the camera, Todd reflects on how he was drawn in by Trent’s welcoming atmosphere and the beauty of the University’s natural surroundings striking architecture.

“Even though I studied Biology and Anthropology, I’ve always been a very visual person,” he says. “The architecture of Trent was something that always stood out and stayed with me.”

After a life-changing field course in Kenya, Todd’s desire to explore the world shifted his path dramatically. What started as a dream to work in the field of natural resources evolved into an international career in modelling, which later transitioned into fashion photography and reality television.

Having travelled to more than 30 countries to date, Todd credits Trent for his academic foundation and opportunities and the social awareness and adaptability that shaped his life.

Watch the video to hear Todd reflect on how his time at Trent shaped his worldview, sparked an unexpected career change, and his advice for students navigating life’s many pivots.
