Local business leader and Trent University alumna, Elizabeth (Beth) E. Kelly ’83 invests in The Campaign for Trent Durham GTA, supporting the campus expansion and bolstering student support through the Beth Kelly ’83 and Family Student Prizes.

“Beth has been a quiet supporter of our campus’ expansion since the very beginning,” said Dr. Scott Henderson, dean and head, Trent University Durham GTA. “Beth’s meaningful financial support will allow more students from the Durham Region access to the Trent education she benefitted from. We are grateful to Beth and her family for investing in the future of Trent University Durham.”

As a long-time Oshawa resident from a multi-generational family of real estate developers, Beth has been a steadfast community supporter that believes in the power of education to transform lives and shape the future of the region. Ms. Kelly is the President of Halloway Developments Limited and the Vice President of Valiant Rental Properties.

"Having a passion for learning and strong work ethic are values that I believe in," said Ms. Kelly. "Students who are juggling the responsibilities of home, work, and school may not have the highest marks, but their drive and determination will help them succeed throughout their lives. Those are the students that I wanted to support."

The Trent Durham GTA expansion integrates both residence and academic space and feature a 200-bed residence, a 100-seat tiered lecture hall, and two 64-seat classrooms, research space, student common spaces, new green space, and faculty offices. The campus is home to 1,750 students, the vast majority in need of financial assistance. Ms. Kelly’s contribution supports the next generation of students through student bursaries that will be awarded annually to two undergraduate students at the Durham campus.

The chosen students will be those who exhibit a passion and enthusiasm for learning, as evidenced by their consistent effort. They may have satisfactory academic achievement and be a first-generation student, a single parent, a caregiver for a family member, or someone who often assists other students.

The $5 million Campaign for Trent University Durham GTA will support the campus expansion project, increase financial aid for students, and provide more career-enhancing experiences to ensure Trent graduates' success. Ms. Kelly's investment builds on an outpouring of support from the Durham community.
