Life After Trent: Building Careers and Alumni Bonds

Designed to create networking opportunities for students, alumni, and community members at various stages of their career, LAT events bring people together to mingle, engage and support each other along their professional journeys. The program works in partnership with Alumni Engagement & Services and CareerSpace to help Trent University students and recent grads develop networking skills, build their professional network and gain experience to help kickstart their career.
LAT provides a variety of forums, such as the TrentUConnect virtual mentorship platform, the Professional-In-Residence program, and networking events where students and recent grads connect with experienced alumni and industry professionals. The Alumni-in-Residence often deliver a lecture or participate in panel discussions, classroom visits and other less formal events with students.
On Thursday, November 9, Trent hosted the Life After Trent: Lawyer in Residence Roundtable event for a casual yet informative virtual networking session between students and alumni working in the field of law. This session welcomed Lawyer in Residence Dr. Fiona Sampson C.M. ʼ87, as well as Stephen P. Kylie LLB ’72, Alvin I. Schieck LLB ʼ84, and Hailey Burkitt-Cooper ʼ04. These alumni guests shared career advice and personal stories of serendipitous moments that ultimately shaped their career and life after Trent while providing students with the opportunity to practice their networking skills.
The 2022 LAT event series continued throughout the month: Conservation Biology with Stephanie Landers '08, Isa Prophet '13, and Dylan Radcliffe '12; Chemistry with Dr. Gregory Hodgson Ph.D. ʼ06, Phillip Siambi B.Sc. ʼ09, and Molly Hu B.Sc. ʼ15; as well as the Biomedical Program & Medical Professional Stream with Chris Smith ’02 and Dr. Nicole Hogle ʼ10.
