Trent alumnus, Dave Smith ’91, will be representing the Peterborough region for a second term as the riding’s Member of the Provincial Parliament.
MPP Smith garnered 38.54 per cent of votes in the riding’s 93 polls, a slight increase from his 2018 win. Other alumni in the Peterborough-Kawartha candidacy mix include Jen Deck ’92, who ran for the NDP and Robert Gibson ’18, representing the Green Party.
“We look forward to continuing working alongside MPP Smith as Trent alumni, students, faculty and staff contribute to the prosperity and growth of the province,” says Lee Hays director of Alumni Engagement & Services at Trent University.
MPP Smith obtained a B.Sc. in Computing Systems from Trent University and worked in the information technology field prior to entering politics.
Some of his immediate goals heading into his second term include establishing an express GO Transit bus service between Peterborough and Toronto, and securing government funding for a new medical clinic to serve Peterborough’s marginalized and homeless individuals.
