#FacesOfTrentU: Philanthropy in Action - Student Rapid Relief Fund
Monique Clarke, Fourth-Year Business Administration and Computing and Information Systems
Monique Clarke is entering her fourth year as an international student from Jamaica, pursuing degrees in both Business Administration and Computing and Information Systems. She also received a bursary for the Trent Student Relief Fund.
“Not only was your contribution able to help me financially,” Monique reflects on the support from this fund, “but in many ways, it gave me a sense of hope – someone actually cares."
In previous years of study, Monique was the recipient of the Trent International Global Citizen Tuition Scholarship for her academic achievement, extraordinary community service and commitment to leadership. She was also on the Dean’s Honour Roll each year of study. Monique has also been an active member of the Trent community on campus. She worked as a student employee at the university’s Alumni Affairs, volunteered as a member of the Board of Executives for the Trent Business Students Association (TBSA), and offered her support to the Trent African and Caribbean Student Union (TACSU).
Plans to seek internship opportunities in Toronto and Vancouver were interrupted by the pandemic. The Trent Student Relief Fund has given Monique the financial support needed to continue her pursuit of her education. This fund was established specifically to assist Trent students experiencing financial hardships due to COVID-19.
“I wholeheartedly would like to extend my sincere appreciation for all that you have done and all that you continue to do for students like myself. You are making a difference, and you are an inspiration to recipients of donations, to also make a difference, no matter how small.”
