3rd Annual Trent University Alumni Day of Service
Saturday, May 2nd, 2020
What is Alumni Day of Service?
When does it happen?
The 3rd annual Trent University Day of Service will be held on or around Saturday, May 2, 2020 (or select a date that works better for you) with the goal of bringing together Trent alumni and community members around the world to volunteer with organizations in their area. Trent University Alumni Day of Service will be a catalyst for ongoing volunteerism by Trent alumni, students, faculty and staff.
Trent University has a longstanding tradition of service. From student engagement, to alumni based volunteer efforts, to the highest levels of government office, the Trent community has constantly risen to the challenge of bettering our world. Indeed, many community members are doing just that in their professional lives in the non-profit sector, by serving on boards and foundations, or by giving their energy and experience to volunteer programs in the places they live, work, and play.
We do not have a particular theme to Alumni Day of Service. If you are organizing your own service site or volunteering independently, we encourage you to choose an organization or activity that reflects Trent's spirit of giving back. Some examples might include, food banks, environmental causes, garbage pickup, or yard clean up at parks. These are only some possible suggestions. Please pick an organization that is near and dear to your heart, that you are passionate about and that will impact your community. Please also remember to choose an initiative that is safe and manageable.
Last year, Trent alumni and friends volunteered in 23 cities across Canada and 4 countries around the world as part of the inaugural Alumni Day of Service.
Special Messages of Support
“While the Trent family is spread across the globe, we are all connected by our desire to improve where we live—from our neighbourhoods, to our countries, and beyond. We’re launching Alumni Day of Service to support organizations and individuals leading the charge in improving our communities, and to deepen the Trent commitment to community service.” – Dr. Leo Groarke, president & vice-chancellor, Trent University
"I'm delighted to see Trent Alum volunteering in even more communities across Canada and around the world for Trent University's 3rd Annual Alumni Day of Service. We've seen such an enthusiastic response to this initiative in the last two years and it truly speaks to the lessons we've learned at Trent. I'm overjoyed to see alumni make a difference in their communities with the spirit of Trent in their hearts." - Jess Grover '02 Trent University Alumni Association President
How do I participate?
We look forward to your participation in 2021.
Volunteer Independently
For alumni and others who wish to volunteer on their own you can still give back to your community and volunteer on this meaningful day as a representative of Trent University. Simply arrange to volunteer with an organization in your community, and select that you are an independent volunteer when completing the Day of Service registration form. Or you can simply volunteer with an organization where you are already volunteering. Please see the note about Day of Service merchandise when you register to volunteer.
Can I volunteer with my family or friends?
Absolutely! We highly encourage you to volunteer with others. Please remember to register your family members as volunteering independently.
