The Trent Idea Exchange was created to help identify the many public lectures, discussions, readings and academically focused events hosted by Trent that are open to the community.

Here are some of the lectures that take place.

David Morrison Lecture in International Development
Brings globally distinguished scholars who are renowned for the impact that their intellectual and applied work has had on international development studies to Trent University

The Stairs Lecture in Chemistry
The Stairs Lecture in Chemistry, the first endowed lecture series in Chemistry at Trent University, was created by Trent Professor Emeritus Dr. Robert Stairs and his wife, Sibyl.
The lecture series enables Trent to invite a distinguished scientist to speak on his or her research and to showcase the field of Chemistry.

Elaine Stavro Distinguished Visiting Scholar in Theory, Politics and Gender
The Distinguished Visiting Scholar in Theory, Politics & Gender was established by Trent University’s Dr. Elaine Stavro. The endowed program is to provide students, staff, faculty and members of the Peterborough community with access to an exceptional scholar who is engaged in political theory, and to significantly build on the University’s reputation for its interdisciplinary program.

David Sheperd Family Lecture Series

The David Sheperd Family Lecture Series introduces Trent students and faculty, and members of the Peterborough community to leading scholars and people engaged in policy and practical work in the field of environmental science. The goal of the series is to build on the University’s reputation of leadership in Environmental Science/Studies.

Jack Matthews Fellow
Created in 2008, the Jack Matthews Fellowship honours the founding leadership contributions of the late Mr. Jack Matthews to Trent University, Lakefield College School, and The Canadian Canoe Museum.

Kenneth Mark Drain Chair in Ethics Lecture
Established by members of the Patterson and Drain families and named in honour of Kenneth Mark Drain, the Kenneth Mark Drain Chair in Ethics Lecture celebrates Trent’s commitment to a liberal arts and sciences education and its mission to inspire critical thinking.

The David Schindler Professorship in Aquatic Science Lecture
Established in 2008, the David Schindler Endowed Professorship in Aquatic Science is the first-ever endowed professorship at the University to honour the work of Dr. David Schindler, a former Trent professor and one of the world’s leading limnologists (a specialist in the study of freshwater lakes and rivers).

Margaret Laurence Lecture
The annual lecture honours Trent's fourth chancellor, and acknowledges her contributions to literature, feminism, ecology, and the peace movement.

Tapscott-Lopes Business & Society Lecture
Brings prominent speakers to the Trent University community to address issues of values and ethics as they pertain to business and society
