Life After Trent: the BioMed/PreMed Edition

Thursday, October 8, 2020 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Join us for Life After Trent: the BioMed/PreMed Edition. Students from the Trent University Biomedical Science program and Premedical Studies option are invited to attend Life After Trent: the BioMed/PreMed Edition, a casual yet informative session where they will meet experienced Alumni, gain insightful advice from the experiences of others in the medical field, and create valuable connections. It's a great opportunity for professional development. In this session, we welcome Candace Ellison '11, Carly Knuth '11 and Hailey Guertin '16. Hailey Guertin '16 is currently studying Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry pursuing a Medical Doctor Degree. While completing an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science at Trent University, Hailey was an active member of the rowing community, competing, coaching and serving as Trent University Rowing Club president. She is interested in pursuing trauma and acute care surgery, hoping to practice in a large city centre as she enjoys the diverse patient population. "Medicine has been an extremely challenging and fulfilling experience and I'm excited to see what the future holds!" Candace Ellison '11 is a Member Services Coordinator at the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario (PARO) which represents medical residents in Ontario. While completing an Honours Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies at Trent University, Candace also competed on the Varsity Rowing Team, participated in the Trent-in-Ecuador Year Abroad Program, and acted as interpreter for the Nursing program during a medical brigade in Honduras. She will be sharing her career journey since graduating from Trent University, as well as her experience working with medical residents at the University of Ottawa, McMaster University, and Ontario-wide. Carly Knuth '11 is currently studying Medical Sciences at the Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Toronto, pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree. After completing an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Trent University, she earned a Master of Science degree in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Guelph. Carly is an avid volunteer who has held long-term placements at many community organisations including the YMCA, Toronto Wildlife Centre, Veterinary Emergency Clinic of York Region and Trent Peer Support. In May 2019, she co-founded NextStep Mentors, an organization that provides academic support and networking opportunities for undergraduates and recent graduates in STEM seeking career advice.
