1. CONTEST: Teachers’ Book Contest (the “Contest”) is conducted and administered by the Office of Alumni Engagement & Services (“Alumni Relations”) at Trent University (“Trent”). Subject to the eligibility rules in Section 2 below, the Contest is open to Trent alumni who have graduated as of June 30, 2025. By entering the Contest, all entrants consent to the personal information which is contained in their entry submissions being collected by Trent for the purpose of operating the Contest.


2. ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open to Canadian residents only. To be eligible for the Contest, each entrant must have graduated from Trent by June 30, 2025. To be considered a Trent alumnus an entrant must have completed a degree, diploma or certificate in a credit program at Trent or hold an honorary degree from Trent. All decisions regarding eligibility to enter the Contest will be determined by Alumni Relations in its sole discretion and it reserves the right to review and approve all Entry Submissions. The Contest is void where prohibited by law.


3. PRIZE DETAILS AND CHANCES OF WINNING: There are five (5) prizes available to be won in the Contest. Each prize includes five (5) books. The chances of winning a prize will depend on the number of eligible entrants received in accordance with these Official Rules by the contest closing time. The approximate value of the prize is $100 CDN. The winners must confirm their mailing address and phone number for Alumni Relations in order for shipping to be arranged. Trent reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to substitute the prizes, with a substitute prize of $100 CDN including without limitation a cash or gift certificate award.


4. CONTEST SCHEDULE: The Contest commences on September 22, 2025 at approximately 12:00 pm EST and closes on October 31, 2025 at 12:00 pm EST. Entry submissions must be received via the contact update form on the Trent University Alumni website by 12:00 pm EST on October 31, 2025 in order to be eligible for the Contest.


5. HOW TO ENTER: No purchase is necessary to enter the Contest. Eligible entrants must complete the following:
a) Visit http://trentu.ca/alumnicontest
b) Click on the “Teachers' Book Contest” button directing them to update their contact information
c) Enter their current contact information, including current personal address, personal email address and personal phone number, then submit.
An auto-generated email confirming entry into the Contest will be provided. There is a limit of one entry submission per person.


6. PRIZE DRAW DETAILS: All eligible entrant names will be entered into an online random selector on November 10, 2025 at approximately 11am EST. The winner will be announced on November 11, 2025 at approximately 1pm EST. If necessary, should a prize be unclaimed, or should the selected entrant be unwilling, unable or ineligible to win a prize as set out in these Official Rules, the prize will be forfeited and Alumni Relations shall have the right to draw, as a replacement, additional entry submission(s) until a valid winner is chosen. All determinations of the selected entrants and the winners by Trent are final and binding. No communication with eligible entrants will be entered into except with the selected entrants. All matters related to the Contest and the verification of the eligibility of the selected entrants shall be conducted by Alumni Relations, or by persons designated by Alumni Relations in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by Alumni Relations in this regard are final and binding and cannot be challenged.


7. NOTIFICATION: Alumni Relations will notify the selected entrants within 48 hours of the draw via phone or email. If the selected entrant does not respond to the notification by November 12, 2025 at approximately 11am EST, the selected entrant is automatically disqualified, and a new eligible entrant will be selected.


8. DECLARATION OF WINNER: The selected entrant will not be declared a winner of the Contest until Alumni Relations has determined that the selected entrant is eligible pursuant to these Official Rules. Prior to being declared a winner, the selected entrant must correctly answer, without help, a time limited, skill-testing question provided by Alumni Relations and Alumni Relations must further confirm that the selected entrant has complied with all requirements of these Official Rules and execute any document required by Trent and/or Alumni Relations. Once the skill-testing question is answered correctly and the verification takes place, the selected entrant will be declared the winner.


9. CONTEST MODIFICATION OR CANCELLATION: Alumni Relations reserves the right, without prior notice and at any time, to delay, or terminate the Contest, in whole or in part, or modify, suspend, amend or extend the Contest in any way, in its sole discretion, including without limitation if it determines, that the Contest is not practicable or is impaired or corrupted or that fraud or technical problems, failures or malfunctions (including without limitation, computer viruses, glitches or printing or production errors) have destroyed or severely undermined the proper conduct, integrity, and/or feasibility of the Contest. In the event Alumni Relations is prevented from continuing with the Contest as contemplated herein by any event beyond its control, including but not limited to fire, flood, natural or man-made epidemic or health or other means, earthquake, explosion, labour dispute or strike, act of God or public enemy, riot or civil disturbance, terrorist threat or activity, war or any federal, provincial or local government law, order, or regulation, public health crisis, the order of any court or jurisdiction, or by any other cause not reasonably within Alumni Relation’s control (each a “Force Majeure” event), then subject to any governmental approval which may be required, Alumni Relations shall have the right to modify, suspend, amend extend, delay or terminate the Contest.


10. PARTICIPATION: Participation in the Contest constitutes an agreement by each participant to comply with these Official Rules.


11. DISQUALIFICATION: It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that they have complied in full with all of the conditions and requirements contained in these Official Rules. If any participant or entry submission is found to be ineligible, or if an eligible entrant has not complied with these Official Rules or declines the prize for any reason prior to award, such eligible entrant or entry submission will be disqualified and, in Alumni Relation’s sole discretion, an alternate winner may be selected. No mechanically reproduced, illegible, incomplete, forged, software generated or other automated multiple entries will be accepted. Alumni Relations reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who is found to be tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest; to be acting in violation of these Official Rules; or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with the intent to disrupt or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest, or to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. Alumni Relations reserves the right to seek damages and other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. ATTENTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR TO UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, TRENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CRIMINAL.


12. RELEASE AND INDEMNIFICATION: By entering the Contest, each participant: (a) releases and agrees to hold Trent and its respective directors, officers, employees, and agents harmless from and against any and all costs, injuries, losses or damages of any kind, including, without limitation, bodily injury and property damage, or any other damage or loss, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, to participation in the Contest, any Contest related activity, or from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize, or participation in any prize related activity; and (b) agrees to fully indemnify Trent and its respective directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims on the part of any third party or parties related in any way and for any reason to the Contest or the prize including, without limitation, death, and personal or property damage or injury.


13. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: Trent assumes no responsibility or liability for incorrect, damaged, illegible, incomplete, mutilated, spoiled, destroyed, stolen, misplaced, lost, late, misdirected or incomplete entry submissions, which may be judged void, any notifications, responses, replies, or for any computer, telephone, hardware, software or technical malfunctions that may occur. Trent assumes no responsibility for any theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entry submissions. Trent is not responsible for any injury or damage to participants in the Contest.


14. PUBLICITY RELEASE: By entering the Contest, the winner hereby agrees and grants to Trent, without further compensation, the unrestricted rights, but not the obligation, to obtain photos, quotes and stories related to the prize for use in future promotional purposes in connection with the Contest, and any other promotions and programs, whatsoever, without further notice or compensation and hereby releases Trent from any liability with respect thereto.


15. OFFICIAL RULES AND LAWS: These are the Official Rules (the “Official Rules”). The Contest is governed by and construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and federal laws of Canada applicable therein and the parties hereby attorn to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of Ontario. Contest rules are subject to change without notice in order to comply with any applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws or the policy of any other entity having jurisdiction over Trent. These Official Rules, as amended from time to time, will be posted on the Alumni Relations website.


16. CONSTRUCTION: The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Official Rules shall otherwise remain in effect and be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained in these Official Rules. Headings and captions are used in these Official Rules solely for ease of reference, and shall not be deemed to affect in any manner the meaning or intent of these Official Rules or any provision hereof. These Official Rules cannot be modified or amended in any way except in writing by a duly authorized representative of Trent.


17. PRIVACY: The Alumni Office collects information on behalf of Trent. Any information submitted by an individual to the Alumni Office pursuant to the Contest and otherwise, including through an associated website or via email, may be used to update that individual’s record. Information gathered for the above purposes will be protected and used in compliance with Ontario's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Individuals who submit information to The Alumni Office in participation in the Contest acknowledge the above collection of their personal information for these purposes.
