Children of Alumni Scholarship Story: Sharayah Harbridge ’14

Trent Alumna Sharayah Harbridge ’14 values her unique Trent experience, which saw her enjoying the process of learning across several disciplines while earning her Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
Sharayah notes that the scholarship “made a big difference; It took the weight and stress off the finances that you don’t think, or may not know about when entering university.” She used part of the scholarship to purchase a laptop that she would go on to use throughout her time at Trent.
After graduating, Sharayah intended to study communication disorders, putting the psychology and linguistic courses she had taken during her time at Trent to good use. Instead, she rediscovered her love of art. Having pursued art in high school, she used what she had learned at Trent across courses in anatomy, archaeology, astronomy, linguistics, and psychology to shape her current career as a freelance graphic designer.
“I’ve enjoyed learning; and learning new technologies and processes involved with graphic design has allowed me to develop my skills. It has really informed my path and allows me to pursue something new every day.”
Looking towards the future, Sharayah said that she enjoys working for herself and is always interested in continuing to learn. She wants to continue developing her passions and hopes to learn French and how to cook.
Sharayah acknowledges the profound impact this scholarship had on both her academic success and her life. Applications for the 2023 Children of Alumni Scholarship will be accepted until August 31, 2023.
