Indigenous Communities: Bridging the Digital Divide and Increasing Participation in the Digital Economy.

Trent Alumnus Jarret Leaman will be our guest speaker at our weekly Enwayaang Series on Thursday Feb 25th, 4:00 pm.

Topic: “Indigenous Communities: Bridging the Digital Divide and Increasing Participation in the Digital Economy.”

Jarret will speak about his role as founder of the Centre for Indigenous Education and Technology, and while his talk will be a bit more focused on Indigenous data sovereignty we will hear more about the other companies he runs (talent Agency Ayaabe Management and Troon Technologies). Jarret will also speak about his time at Trent and reflect on how his experiences shaped his career path.

Enwayaang is a weekly series dedicated to passionate speakers and audiences “speaking together.” We are pleased to feature this particular weekly talk as a “Life After Trent” event.

Biography:

Jarret Leaman Is Anishinaabe from Magnetawan First Nation. He identifies as two-spirited. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resource Management and a Minor in Indigenous Studies, from Trent University, and a Master’s degree in Industrial Relations through the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University. Jarret is a business partner overseeing Philanthropy and Business Development for Troon Technologies and he is founder of the Centre for Indigenous Innovation and Technology. He is also a successful entrepreneur, running the talent agency Ayaabe Management where he works with Indigenous talent in the entertainment industry. Jarret has been recognized as a national Indigenous leader, recognized as one of Huffington Post’s Top 3 Indigenous Millennials in Canada. He was awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers for his work in the Indigenous and LGBT2S communities. He was awarded the Trent University Young Alumni Award in 2019. Jarret was also one of the first graduates of Peter Gzowski College and held roles with Gzowski College cabinet as well as working as a residence Don, during his time at Trent.
